Retrospect's
Most Asked Questions

Please take a moment to look through the questions, if you still can not find an answer that you are looking for, feel free to message us through our contact page.
  1. How many laser sessions will I need?
Retrospect uses a range of factors to best estimate the number of treatments you will need to achieve your desired look. These include: • Age of tattoo • Location of tattoo • Size of tattoo • Ink colors • Skin type • Ink type (amateur vs. professional) • Ink density • Pre-existing scarring • Patient health Most professional tattoos need anywhere from 5 to 10 treatments. Older, faded, or amateur tattoos may only need 3 to 6 treatments. Every patient and tattoo is unique and so are the number of treatments they will need. However, it is certain that every tattoo will need multiple treatments for complete removal.
  2. Is laser tattoo removal painful?
This has to be the most asked question we get from patients. Lasers are often associated with pain or a burning sensation, but we can assure you that our Duality laser is very tolerable. Depending on your pain tolerance, the laser can feel like a rubber band being snapped against your skin or it can feel like having a tattoo applied. The Crow's Nest provides skin numbing solutions to help minimize pain and maximize patient comfort during treatment
  3. How long does the laser tattoo removal process take?
Patients with low pain tolerances are always happy to hear that laser sessions are very quick. Depending on the size of the tattoo being treated, a laser session can last anywhere from a few seconds to 20 minutes. Treatment sessions are spaced a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks apart. We implement this waiting period to ensure your skin has enough time to heal before undergoing laser treatment again. The time it takes to completely remove your tattoo varies and depends on factors including the tattoo location, ink density, skin tone, and immune system. Our Duality laser shatters more ink with each session, but the fading rate relies entirely on your immune system and how quickly you heal. We encourage our patients to stay active and drink plenty of water during the laser process to boost their immune system.
  4. Will the laser leave a scar?
You can rest assured knowing that our laser is FDA-approved, meaning it is not meant to cause any damage or harm to the skin. We utilize the safest, most effective protocols and customize them to your unique tattoo and skin type to ensure the best results. As long as proper aftercare instructions are carried out at home, you will experience beautiful results and clear skin. The laser itself produces absolutely no scarring on clients.
  5. Are there any side effects to the laser?
Laser tattoo removal is the safest method for removing unwanted ink from the skin. The most common side effects you may experience are redness, itchiness, swelling, scabbing, and bruising. All of these side effects are temporary and heal over the 6 to 8 weeks waiting period after each laser session. Patients are highly advised to follow proper aftercare instructions during that time. Retrospect promises to deliver the safest, most effective treatments in Dubuque utilizing state-of-the-art technology, but it is your responsibility to attend to your skin outside of our clinic. All patients are given a detailed aftercare instruction sheet to take home after treatment.
  6. Can I only get a part of my tattoo removed?
Yes! Our Duality laser can target specific parts of your tattoo while leaving the surrounding ink intact. The laser pulse is very focused and can remove certain unwanted elements like shading or script.
  7. Can you lighten my tattoo for a cover-up?
Absolutely! Laser tattoo removal is the perfect tool for patients interested in getting a cover-up tattoo. By lightening a tattoo, you’re creating a cleaner canvas for your artist to work on. This allows them to be more flexible and precise with their design and also gives you more options for your new cover-up. Most tattoos only require a few laser treatments for fading. Ask one of our expert laser technicians about our cover-up program with the talented cover-up tattoo artists at The Crow’s Nest.
  8. How much does laser tattoo removal cost?
We provide superior treatments in a comfortable environment, and our pricing reflects that. Retrospect offers affordable and competitive pricing per treatment to give you the results that you want. Our pricing is based on the size of the tattoo being treated. Our treatment packages and special discounts are designed to save you more, so be sure to check out our pricing page for updates.
  9. How much does a consultation cost?
Consultations are absolutely free! Retrospect understands that laser tattoo removal can be as big of a decision as getting a tattoo applied. We provide free consultations to assess your tattoo in person, help you get familiar with our technology, and most importantly, get you comfortable with the procedure. Nobody likes committing to something they’re unsure about. Our free consultations walk you through every step of the procedure so that you’re 100% confident in your decision for tattoo removal.
